About SHCA

The history of the Sharon Heights Community Association (SHCA) dates back to an informal homeowners association (HOA) created by residents of the neighborhood 20+ years ago. Its primary focus was to create a printed directory and to facilitate community events.  When the founders of the HOA moved on, the organization went dormant.  In 2022 some neighbors decided to resurrect the group to include renters as well as homeowners and to broaden the charter of the organization.

The SHCA is open to all Sharon Heights residents. It has four primary purposes. They are to:

  • Represent the interests of Sharon Heights residents in matters involving other organizations (San Mateo County, Police & Fire Departments, City Government & Commissions, etc.)
  • Publish the Sharon Heights Directory and other online services
  • Discuss issues and solve problems within Sharon Heights
  • Organize and support community events (picnics, holiday events, garage sales, etc.)
The SHCA provides our residents with a unified voice in dealing with a variety of issues. Some current and past examples include zoning regulation changes, the housing element, protecting our parks, etc.

The SHCA board currently consists of 3 volunteer members and can be expanded and updated as determined by the members. The members of the board serve 2 year terms. Annually the board selects among its members a President, Vice President, and Treasurer. Board meetings are quarterly, generally the first Wednesday of every third month at 7:30 P.M. at the home of one of the board members.  Our founding board consists of Brian Kissel as President, Catherine (Cat) Carlton as Vice President, and Derek Marsano as Treasurer.  If you would like to serve on SHCA subcommittee, please send a message via the "contact us" link at the top of the website.

The SCHA is evaluating collecting dues from its members annually. These would generally be paid at the time of the annual directory information drive and entitle each member to one directory listing.  Since the SHCA had $5000 remaining from the original HOA, there is no immediate need for funding, but this website, bank fees, and other services will eventually deplete that funding, so we will need to decide as a group how to fund ongoing operations.
